Steve Gladstone, regarded as one of the premier rowing coaches in the United States, was named the new head coach of Yale’s heavyweight crew in 2010 and his first spring racing season was 2011. Yale Heavyweight Crew has risen to new heights under his leadership, and Gladstone was rewarded with a 2015 USRowing Medal while being named Ivy League Coach of the Year.
In 2014-15, the varsity saw its best finishes in nearly a decade, taking the Eastern Sprints and beating Harvard at the 150th Yale-Harvard Regatta. The varsity went on to defeat national champion Washington in the final of the Ladies’ Challenge Plate at the Henley Royal Regatta.
