Potomac Boat Race a Smashing Success!
Despite D.C. weather that resembled Lent Bumps at their worst, a hardy crowd of Cam (and Ox) alumni watched the 2nd annual (revived) Cambridge-Oxford Potomac Boat Race from the beautiful Georgetown Waterfront dock. Afterwards, around 100 alumni from both schools repaired to the Ritz Georgetown for Pimm’s and hours of good conversation. The Cambridge Society’s Potomac Cup (a.k.a. the Cup of Destiny) was presented for photos to the winning teams (Oxford – Men’s VIII, Cambridge – Women’s IV by forfeit). The Society also welcomed its new racing mascot – Mr. Gordo the border terrier.
The Cambridge Society of Washington, D.C. is one of the most active Cambridge alumni societies in North America. An incorporated, tax-exempt organization, the Society holds multiple benchmark events during the year, including the Potomac Boat Race, the London Boat Race Viewing, and a new annual Garden Party. The Society holds monthly “First Thursday” Drinks (at 6:30 p.m.) at the beautiful Willard Hotel by the White House. If you are in town then, we hope you will drop by!
