Revised Lane Draw: GER NED GRE AUS USA GBR
The wind is still changeable but tending to a head/cross-wind coming over from the island as in the previous two days of finals. The water is flat in the final 500m. There are gusts blowing across the lake in the middle 1000m. A dark cloud looms over the 500m mark.
Huge roar as the crews are announced. The home crowd are up for this! They’re off!
GB and Australian bows push ahead of the rest by a few feet. There is nothing between them. GB just a metre ahead at the first marker. The USA are third but all eyes on the GB Australian crews. GB have a canvas at 1000m. The wind has swung mostly to a headwind. 1250m and the crowds are already shouting. Australia are coming back. Just under a canvas still for GB at 1500m. Australia are moving but GB respond and lift their rate. Massive strokes going in from both crews but Australia can’t close the gap enough. GB pull away int the last strokes. It’s GB to take the win! Australia second and the USA third. The home crowd are on their feet! Gold for great Britain.
