Now for the blue ribband event for women the eights. I am sitting surrounded by Canadians and Dutch and expect a huge crowd response for these races!
Heat 1: Germany, Great Britain, USA, Australia/strong>
USA shows its class by leading out at 500m with Australia second 3/4 length behind. Clear water to USA at 750m. Great Britain in third behind Australia. [GB and Germany use Coxmate SX amplifiers]. 1500m GB working it back against Australia one third of a length behind. USA 2.5 lengths clear. Australia push back and take distance on GB to half a length. Britain working hard and getting the cheers but finish third.
Heat 2: Netherlands, Romania, Canada
And they’re off. Last race of the day. Canada and the Netherlands out just in front at 250m. The Canadians look so strong and have half a length ahead of Netherlands. Romania press back and are 3 feet behind Holland.Canada has a 3/4 length at half way with Romania a canvas ahead of Netherlands in third place. Dutch drop back and the Romanians close on Canada but they press on and have a canvas overlap only at 1500m and the Dutch are half a length behind. Rates coming up from teh Dutch early sprint chasing back and everyone closing on Canada’s lead which is cut to 2/3 length. Canada lead with 3/4 length, Romania second.
