Sue Hughes and her friend Heather Rudge won the Newsletter subscribers prize of tickets
to the Olympic rowing finals at Eton Dorney. She writes,
We’re both members of Goring Gap Boat Club (GGBC) which is a recreational rowing club on a beautiful stretch of the Thames – I started rowing by being in a novice crew in Goring and Streatley regatta in 2010 having never ever rowed before and loved it, so joined GGBC’s Learn to Row course in Autumn 2010. Heather also did the Learn to Row course in 2010, then did the more advanced course and is now also a member of Reading Rowing Club and is a good rower and sculler
GGBC aims to promote rowing in the community with an emphasis on enjoying the sport so we have a wide range of experience in the club, and I’m currently the membership secretary. We’ve been on a temporary site for a number of years and are working hard to secure a permanent home for the club. I’m more of a rower than a sculler, but really just enjoy the exercise and being on the river. However I’ve been totally inspired watching some of the olympic rowing events and can feel a more competitive streak emerging! – I will join the womens crew in the autumn!
