What are the best Summer Rowing camps for 14 year olds worldwide? My daughter has 1 solid year rowing and top 10 provincial Erg scores.
Some days the Rowperfect mailbag comes in with the BEST questions. I particularly like new challenges where we have not previously written on the topic. Aimee’s question was one of these. Aimee sparked me into doing more research because this is clearly a topic we need to cover off here in the blog!
So I reached out to our readers on Facebook – and got a couple of answers and did some research too.
Best Rowing Camps for Children
I am not in a position to judge the “best” camps.
- Here’s a list of camps from US Rowing
- And from Row2K
but they are US oriented, not Canadian (where our questioner lives).
- Sparks Consult has a list of rowing camps which they run as part of their university recruitment preparation service.
- I found Brock do kids camps
UK Rowing camps
- Durham University Sculling Camp
- GB Rowing did a news article from 2009 about camps and rowing / sculling courses
- Shiplake College runs co-curricular rowing camps
- Cambridge Rowing Camps is a business delivering camps in Cambridge
- Eton Rowing Courses
- Imperial College Rowing Courses at Putney in London
Europe Rowing Camps
- This web page shows locations across Europe but most seem to be rowing courses, not training or educational event
- Castleconnell B.C in Limerick Ireland run summer camps
- Hungary has Milestone Rowing Club in Budapest who recently hosted clubs including the Cambridge and Oxford University Boat Clubs, Oxbridge College crews and a Vietnamese national U23 team. Photos of the club
In summary
This is a pretty slim list – please let’s make it a better resource for everyone. If your club runs a camp or learn to row course, please list it in the comments below.

South Niagara Rowing Club, in Welland, Ontario, has been running a highly successful Summer Camp program for years. More information can be found at http://www.rowsnrc.ca. For a 14 year old with previous rowing experience, another option is the Train to Train program also offered by SNRC. (My daughter is a graduate of the TTT program and went on to have a very successful high school rowing career and now rows at university). One of the advantages to SNRC is the very calm, flat water which is ideal for young folks to learn on. When other local courses are closed due to wind, our course is still quite rowable. Also, there is no other boat traffic allowed, making it a very safe environment.
