Guest poster, Bryan Kitch wrote a post about Why do rowers fear the erg?
There is a great stream of comments including Olympians Mahe Drysdale and Pauline Bird, World lightweight sculler Frans Goebel as well as club athletes, coaches and masters veterans – worth browsing.
Frans quotes a sports science article which came up with the finding
CONCLUSION: International rowers are at higher risk of injury than most non-contact sports and some contact sports. The high risk of lumbar spine injury and the significant association of high volume of ergometer training merit further research to reduce time and competition lost to injury.
Food for thought.
