John Peatfield set us a challenge – to outfit him with robust rowing gloves for traditional Yole rowing boats
I do medium/long distance sculling (I did all the main Lake District Cumbria lakes last year for charity).
I have tried lots of gloves and at the moment use either a pair of Raptors or a pair of specialised cycling gloves. I appreciate your points about rucking up/fit. I used to sail a lot and used Gill / Gul / Henri Lloyd gloves and all had advantages and disadvantages!!
He tried a large pair of Rowing Gloves and after his race, had this to tell us.
Hi Rowperfect – great gloves!!
We did the Welsh Sea Rowing Association Beaumaris Castle to Caernarfon Castle 20km race along the Menai Straits on Saturday in our Yole (boat).
Hard battle for 2hr:20 of sustained sculling – including 5km against the tide – and the gloves worked well. I reckon I had less blisters than usual so I am very happy . . .
Our Yole is 15’ and it is hard to keep up with Celtic Longboats at 26’ and with 4 sweep rowers; especially when there is any chop/waves; but we beat a few in this race. We are the ONLY Yole to enter these races which is a pity.
Again I am a happy customer . . .

Love the gloves, but they do not last very long, the seems have ripped out, and I have had to sew the seems. Great gloves, just wish they had a longer life. Worn out in less than 3 months!
Mary – thanks for this feedback, we have sent it to the manufacturer so they learn about this failing.
