I do believe that there is a lot of good points about the Coxmate GPS that I have:
- for non-demanding (geeky) clients that purely want stroke rate and speed or don’t look into the detail of things it’s a great device that delivers. I have a rower in my club that loves the Coxmate!
- Design is quite smooth and love the fact that looks and feels sturdy;
- Touch screen is a great feature;
- More than just a stroke coach, can be used to do other things (apps).
- You guys thought about the adaptors to attach it to the boat which makes enjoyable the fact that is easy to put the Coxmate anywhere in the boat – not just at stroke.
- The bag that comes with the Coxmate is very nice and provides protection to it while not in use.
I love reviewing equipment and love the idea of someone giving a bit of competition to NK, I do think that you have a good product and you will get even better, NK has a lot of years on the case therefore a bit of a head start.

There are some not so good features too:
1. The other apps. I just want to turn it on and row off.
2. The vertical orientation of the design. I want to be able to mount it on the cross beam of wing riggers but it sits too high for that.
3. Variability in reported boat speed, regardless of the averaging option chosen. It can jump up to 20 sec per 500 within one stroke.
4. The adapter for mounting onto an NK mount is difficult to use, especially in the dark at 5:30AM.
This is very helpful feedback.
Thanks Canberra coxswain for your feedback. If you email us we can send you the updated firmware that addresses points 1 and 3. Point 3 also relates to the settings for both sensitivity and averaging which you can either play around with or we can give you some recommended settings depending on your application of the unit. We are currently developing a new generation unit that will have a much larger screen with landscape orientation. With the adapter mount I would suggest leaving the adapter on the unit all the time and clicking it in and out of the NK mount each time – I find that easier. How do you think the unit stacks up in terms of value when compared to NK? Any other feedback would be appreciated.
