King’s rowers set their sights high in their annual One Million Metre Charity Row.

Over eighty King’s Worcester pupils will be taking part in the annual One Million Metre Charity Rowing challenge over the course of the weekend.  The gruelling challenge, which is now in it’s 7th year, sees pupils starting at 4pm on Friday and rowing the equivalent of six hundred and twenty miles, in an estimated 17 hours. Held in the Michael Baker Boathouse, the pupils will be working in shifts to row five-minute intervals continuously for an hour at a time.

The challenge, which has raised over £30,000 in the last six years, involves pupils of all ages at the school, with up to forty-five 5th and 6th Formers staying overnight. Staff, ex-pupils and also non-rowing pupils will also be on hand to cheer the teams along. This year the pupils are raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young, a charity with close ties to the Boat Club, and Malvern Special Families, chosen by our Club Captains and rowers. If you would like to donate, contact Twitter @KSWBoatClub.

Jim Chalmers added, “It’s such an enjoyable event to be a part of and a real team effort. The atmosphere is buzzing and everyone loves to be involved and do their miles. The bonus is raising so much for our chosen charities too.”
